Today (7 March), Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakides (pictured), will visit Poland where she will meet with local authorities at the Medyka border crossing point and a regional hospital alongside Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski. Discussions will focus on emergency assistance and medical support for displaced persons arriving from Ukraine. Ahead of the visit, Commissioner Kyriakides said: “As the humanitarian situation in Ukraine worsens and neighbouring countries, including Poland, receive Ukrainians fleeing their country, the European Union is working on all fronts to provide cross border emergency assistance to both Ukraine and neighbouring countries, with the health component being a key part of this. We see great, heart-warming solidarity in Poland and neighbouring EU Member States which are welcoming those arriving from Ukraine. We have fully mobilised all health instruments in the Commission alongside our operational health agencies, the ECDC and the EMA, to work closely with the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and provide any support needed. Our unity is Ukraine's greatest support, including protecting the health of those who need it.”
