Germany's Scholz says on WW2 anniversary Putin will not win his war

The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave a televised address on Sunday, May 8, to the nation, marking the anniversary of World War Two's end. He assured Ukraine that he would stand by it in the fight against Russian invasion.

"Putin won't win this war. Scholz stated that Ukraine would persevere.

This year, the date has a special significance because two countries that were once victims to Nazi Germany - Ukraine & Russia - are at war with Russia as Russia unleashed it.

Scholz stated that Germany would provide financial, military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

He said that Russia would not dictate peace. These remarks echo those made earlier by Baerbel Bas, the president of the German parliament.
